What is health insurance in Aargau?

The Aargau Health Insurance Service (SAM) requires all Aargau residents or Swiss citizens to take out basic health insurance (KVG/LAMal). Citizens have 3 months in which to choose a health insurance provider. If this period is exceeded, the SAM will automatically assign a health insurance company to the individual. Premiums vary from canton to canton, but in Aargau they are managed by the SAM. It is possible to take out supplementary insurance for additional coverage.
