Physiotherapy and LAMal coverage
Basic health insurance (LAMal) covers physiotherapy sessions if they are prescribed by a doctor and provided by a recognized physiotherapist.
Physiotherapy sessions may also be covered by your employer's accident insurance (LAA) in the event of an accident, or by your personal accident insurance if you are self-employed.
Note that physiotherapy sessions may in some cases be reimbursed by disability or military insurance.
Basic health insurance (LAMal) will cover all sessions prescribed by your doctor. However, if the number of sessions prescribed annually exceeds 36, the doctor will have to provide a report to your insurance company's medical officer.
Physiotherapy: what does supplementary insurance reimburse?
Basic insurance does not cover physiotherapy sessions that are not prescribed by a doctor. However, you can obtain reimbursement from your supplementary insurance in cases where the physiotherapist is listed on the supplementary insurance register for the practice of alternative therapies.
Please note that reimbursement may vary depending on the supplementary insurance taken out by the patient. It is therefore necessary to consult the general conditions of the health insurance company or to obtain information from the complementary insurance in question.
